well when I applied I was asked for a departure date which I wasn't sure of. I can't actually find the note but the accepted my explanation with the proviso that the visa must be used within 3 months. Maybe others have had different experiences, it happens, and i know I was asked for different things than others. But I am here in Thailand on the visa so it's all good.

You must enter within 90 days of issue.
