I know someone who did it with a medical certificate saying he needed treatment in Thailand.

If your doctor can do this it might work.

It's very easy to bring it. But later it will be very difficult to take it out as Thailand is considered a country with rabies. You will need to send the rabies test to a lab outside Thailand and wait around 6 months after the results.

Why do people hire agents for the DTV visa despite straightforward requirements?

Benjamin Michael with e visa, is true that if you fill your personal information incorrectly they won’t return the deposit.

But for additional documents they will let you send it afterwards.

Anyways paying someone 50K baht to make sure that you don’t put your name wrong on the form seems a bit excessive.
