Officially, you can't apply for a 60 days tourist visa without showing evidence of a return or forwarding ticket. But,as always, some requirements differ between embassies/consulates.
Brandon Thurkettle Since when is London Embassy very fast? I know people from other countries in the EU who got their visas 4-5 days after the application was submitted.
Marty Pollard This post is about applying for a 90 days Non-immigrant O from abroad. There are no home visits when applying for annual extensions based on retirement, only for extensions based on marriage, and not even in every province.
Why not apply for a 90 days Non-immigrant O Visa from back home? This is by far the easiest way to do it. Then you just have to make one visit (after ~60 days) to immigration for a 1 year extension.
Well, your friends are wrong.Starting with a 90 days Non-immigrant O Visa based on retirement is by far the easiest way. Then you just need to extend the stay 1 year after 60 days at the local immigration office. You need a thai bank account with ฿800k 2 months prior to the day you apply for the one year extension.
If not 50 years old, you can't apply for a retirement visa. A 60 days tourist visa from back home is extendable another 30 days at the local immigration office. That gives you at least 90 days. You can also do a so called border run to a neighbouring country and get another 30 days on return. Then extend it another 30 days. That's a total of 150 days.
