No you don’t need to have a long term residence to get your retirement visa but they will ask for some sort of residence

You can get a cheap policy to cover the visa requirements correct.

However with your existing one please check the out of area cover.

Pretty much most policies will cover you if you’re out of area so for example you live here in Thailand but only for a specific number of days eg 14-30 are the norm.

It’s easy for them to check with flight information etc so please be very careful as it mostly won’t cover you living here.
