it is not illegal but doesnt meet the Thai gov guildline.

Gov did cracked down the accounts which agents helped clients without proper visas in Bangkok bank last year

Gov’s big picture is to avoid illegal money but honest like normal people they don’t understand.

In Thai there is no such good faith in law. However to have bank account as foreigner in Thai is the most easiest compare to the other countries

I don’t use bank but IB and CW for gold ETF and other instruments trading .. spread is low and commission is only 2 to 5 usd pre trade, good things is the uninvested cash in usd got 3.8% thesedays daily… Thai is a worst place for moving asset to invest

By the way trading physical got is very innocent way, still don’t know why people choose 650k instead of 800, if they don’t know how to invest , so for those better find agent here to help them

The exchange rate of BB (receiving foreign currencies TT to Thai is the worst). Mean Bangkok bank want to have biz and that’s why they don’t like wise.

HSBC UK has two world debit visa and master cards , they can be used in major thai banks ATM

The master one which link to UK multi currencies account (including Thai bth in uk account, if you have there ), without handling free when using major Thai banks ATM

The visa one also can be linked , has a better exchange rate if you don’t have bth in uk account, but need to pay 250 Thai bth handling fee with Thai ATM (whatever withdraw 100 to

bth)

Cheaper way is to bring cash and exchange in Thai SuperRich

Best way but complicated is to exchange pound to bth by FX broker, then withdraw into above cards linked acoount.. no spread in exchange rate, way better than wise and revolut

Easiest way is the ewallet , like True Money …. 7-11 also accepted

Btw you might want to ask the bank as many of staff don’t have idea of above debit cards

I got mine visa in UK as well as master in HK
