Why not continue on the tourist visa and after fly to Vietnam or somewhere in Asia to reapply for the DTV?

Looks like they were checking to see if you were in the country of approval for the full visa processing time. After confirmed, he move on to normal Thai entry process, which is stamping on a page that also has space for the exit stamp later.

I do not think you have to remain in the country where you applied, just out of Thailand. With that being said, It is a good idea to remain in case an interview is required. There is no guarantee one will be allowed re-entry for a required interview. Not worth the risk.

It seems many do that budget well. If that is too much of a challenge, the only option get a tradition visa, like retirement, student, or work.

Think of the DTV as a long stay multi entry tourist visa.

That is because they are used to it. LOL I am current in Japan were consistency is key. In my opinion, too much of either is highly stressful. Peace is in the middle way.

Not true. Currently, you can convet from a tourism visa. Tomorrow, who knows. It is Thailand and rules change often.
