I did this exact thing about 3 years ago. Kept both books together and was no problem at renewal.

I went apply for a Non O for my Laos wife and daughter to trail my extension of stay based on retirement. Had everything marriage certificate translations funds etc. I was told the rules have changed. Can only apply for spouse of thai or spouse on business or Ed visa not retirement. Let them in on a 60 day tourist.

Many thanks Tod for your swift response. How did I forget to mention our one year old daughter. Can you force a problem with a Non O visa for her too. We have brought her to Thailand twice already on tourist visa with no problem. Have birth certificate etc.

There may be a way round this as alluded to in a post above but just be careful with Transferwise transfers as they do not record as International transfers as friends of mine have found out.
