Good morning group. I would just like to see if the group can confirm my understanding on something after my own research. I believe that I can bring my Laos wife who is under the age of 50 to Thailand on a Non O visa to then follow my Extension of stay based on retirement. I will present my financials and our marriage certificate. Is this correct or am I missing something. Many thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks confirmation about bringing their Laos wife under 50 to Thailand on a Non-O visa to follow their retirement extension, presenting financials and a marriage certificate. A commenter clarifies that the wife must obtain a Non-O 90-day single entry visa before arriving in Thailand, as she cannot acquire it inside the country based on the user's retirement visa, but she can apply for a matching extension as a 'trailing spouse' at the immigration office.

You would have to get her a Non-O 90 day single entry visa BEFORE you come here as she will not be able to get one inside the country based on marriage to a foreigner on an "retirement" visa/extension

BUT

Totally can get her a matching extension based on "trailing spouse" at the immigration office that issued your extension if she comes here on a Non-O

Many thanks Tod for your swift response. How did I forget to mention our one year old daughter. Can you force a problem with a Non O visa for her too. We have brought her to Thailand twice already on tourist visa with no problem. Have birth certificate etc.

you would have to get her a non-O visa before you come as well OR just bring her in and let her overstay (children under 15 can't be fined for overstay and children under 18 can't be banned).

If when she's of school age, you're still here THEN you could bounce her out and back to get her off the overstay and on to an ED visa. I personally wouldn't do anything with the child as there are no negative implications or penalties for children to overstay (I know many foreigners with kids here on multi-YEAR overstays who have no issues)
