Joiner Man "just fine" until they don't.... "just fine" is just a snapshot, not the total history over a decade or a lifetime.

I'm not completely against trying it, nor completely in favor... because I still believe that if someone fails, it could be the best 5...10... years of their life.

But all in all it's not a solid financial plan.

Also keep in mind that depending on the disability, there might be extra risks and costs which increase more than average in later life.

1300 $ monthly for a 26 y old... everything has to play out perfectly over 50-60 years in the future.

As somebody else said it in a comment : "he's one accident away from financial disaster".

Joiner Man because 1300 usd is at the poverty line in the US.

Moving to Thailand he'll be able to live cheaper, but will into problems with long stay visa, and no wiggle room if anything happens.

What do you mean by extended stay ? 6 months ? A year ? Do you have any savings ? Can and are you willing to commute to your home in USA ? ....etc..

You should give more detailed info first.

Your problem is rather the visa than being able to live on 1300 $ usd.

Possible visas are METV, DTV and Elite. Depending on your savings and how long you want to stay.

Joiner Man wrong answer. 800k is completely irrelevant : there is no 800k in bank visa for 26 y old. And agent will not be able to help.
