An update: just did a border run at Chiang Khong with the DTV visa and were able to return same day with no issues.

We applied at LA and only had to show that amount per the primary visa holder, not an additional amount for each dependent

At least in the e-visa system, they require the primary DTV visa holder’s visa to be submitted in order to apply for dependents. The specific funds required seems to be different embassy to embassy
