As far as I recall the airline requires a return ticket booked because there have been problems with immigration denying entry in the past. An up to date opinion based on recent experience would be helpful to determine if this is or has been the case for anyone else.
Yes I would be coming off an O-A extension that I've extended consecutively for 4 years usually leaving the country for up to 6 months and returning with a re-entry stamp. The airport usually checks my passport to see what kind of visa I have since I don't have a return ticket. If I have a non-immigrant O-A they don't require a return ticket and I am allowed to board. If I don't have an O-A and the plan is to obtain a visa on arrival they may not let me board and that is the question whether anyone else has been able to do this without being told they have to have a return ticket booked?.
So I'm wondering what happens when you have an OA and when it's time to renew the extension of stay what will happen at immigration? Will they say you have to leave Thailand or will they give you a 30-day extension of stay or?
James Miller, I posted as an update as a convenience to others that want to know whether the Chiang Mai immigration will be enforcing the health insurance requirement. My choice of how to deal with it isn't important.
thank you for that but can you tell me other than the certified copy of a marriage certificate and proof of having 800,000 baht in a Thai bank acct., which I have, what else do I need to apply for a 90 day Non-O based on marriage?
Okay then since I do not have a re-entry permit I will leave before the expiry of my O-A and apply for a new Non-Immigrant O visa based on marriage without the health insurance requirement since my O-A is no longer valid. ( I will check with Chiang Mai immigration to verify that they will not issue me a marriage visa without the health insurance off the back of my current O-A first). Other than the marriage certification which I will get in Bangkok what else do I need?
