I recently signed a 6 month lease for a house in Phuket. I still have and maintain a place in Chiang Mai. Do I need to file a TM30 for my Phuket Address?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When leasing a house in Phuket while maintaining a residence in Chiang Mai, it is technically required to file a TM30 for the new address in Phuket. However, if you are only handling your immigration matters at the Chiang Mai office and do not intend to use the Phuket immigration office for any formalities, filing may not be necessary. It’s advised to report your change of residence within 24 hours as per Thai law, though enforcement may vary. Updating your location can often be done via the relevant website or app.

The way I understand Thai laws, you must report a change of residence within 24 hours. I’m pretty sure this is an exact interpretation.

If it’s really enforced or not is a separate discussion.

Therefore, when you arrive in Phuket or return to Chiang Mai, just update your location using the website or app (if it is working).

Hopefully this requirement will be done away with soon.

I'd say IF you're going to still get your extension & do your 90 day report at the Chiang Mai immigration office, don't bother filing a TM30 at the Phuket office when you're down there.

However IF you're going to use the Phuket immigration office for anything at all, you should fine a TM30 when you're down there

technically you need to. But it more depends on what you need/are going to do at the Phuket immigration office.
