What Are the Differences Between Non-Immigrant O-A and Non-Immigrant O Visas in Thailand?

What's the difference between an Non-Immigrant O-A visa and a Non-Immigrant O visa? I currently have an O-A visa that is good for 1 yr. stay and then I apply for a 1 yr. extension. My primary question is whether the non-immigrant-O visa allows for a 1 yr. stay or do I need to do border runs every 90 days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non-Immigrant O-A visa is generally intended for retirement, allowing for an initial 1-year stay with options for extensions upon exit and re-entry. This visa allows for unlimited entries during its validity period and can be extended for up to 2 years through timely exits and entries. In contrast, the Non-Immigrant O visa, often for retirement as well, typically does not allow for a full year of stay; instead, it requires border runs every 90 days to maintain its validity.

This might help or not
@Steven ********
. I wrote it a while back and it goes over the three types of things people call "retirement visas"

(It was written BEFORE there was insurance on O-A visas)

And I new this topic would devolve into another mindless O-A insurance thread.

We are done.

Reading the attachement to the order about Thai health insurance,I think that, since 31 of October,in each entry ,you will be permited to stay for the period of your insurance coverage,(maximum one year)

AND if you stamp in on an O-A and cannot show any coverage (if asked) you don't get stamped in on that visa at all. Instead you get stamped in on what ever visa exempt entry your country gets and you have that long to GET insurance. What is not clear (at least not yet) is once you do get the required insurance do you go to the immigration office to get a new year extension OR do you exit re-enter to get stamped in for a new year on the visa.

Joaquin Rodriguez and your policy dates will be adjusted each year to sync with your O-A permission to stay date.... By mutual agreement if insurance company and Thai immigration.

If using as a retirement visa...

Do you want to meet financial requirements of depositing 800,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank or show 65,000 + Thai baht international transfers into your Thai bank account?

Are you married to a Thai ?

If so the requirement is only 400,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank...or 40,000 Thb monthly.

Or IF married to a Thai you could get a Non O Married to Thai visa and no proof of funds is required in several Thai Consulates ...ie Savannakhet.

BUT would have to make border runs every 90 days.

On your O-A visa you can actually get TWO years of stay out of it. The visa is good for a year from the date it's issued, it's unlimited entry for that year and every entry you make gets you stamped in for another year.

SO if you were to exit/re-enter the country just before the VISA itself expired you'd get stamped in for a whole NEW year <- giving you two years of stay out of a visa valid for one year.

If you use an O-A visa correctly you don't need to apply for your first yearly extension until the third year :O

okay, at this time there are only a couple consulates I know of will issue a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on being over 50 (retirement)

BUT

If you were able to get that visa you'd bounce out and back in every 90 days for the validity of the visa

Thai embassy in Denmark will issue 1 year NON-O multiple. visa.

Most all consulates will only issue a 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on being over 50. Then you apply for a yearly extension of stay inside the country by meeting the financial requirements and supplying the required documentation.
