Can I submit my Non-O retirement visa extension application on Monday if my visa expires on a Saturday when Immigration is closed?

If the last day of my Non-O retirement visa falls on a Saturday, when Immigration is closed, would there be a problem with submitting my extension application on Monday? "Update" BBL Bank has told me they can email a 1 year Bank statement so I don't have to wait 1 week to receive it by mail and can do it before Friday.

TLDR : Answer Summary
If your Non-O retirement visa expires on a Saturday when Immigration is closed, it is advisable to submit your extension application before the expiration date to avoid complications such as overstaying. While some immigration offices may allow submissions up to 45 days prior to expiration, waiting until the last moment can lead to issues, especially if additional documents are required. It is suggested to obtain necessary documents, like a bank statement, as early as possible to ensure a smooth application process.

That will cost you. Always do 2 weeks before. In case they refuse, and you have to leave the country.

Once you are passed the expiry date that’s it finished, you will have to leave Thailand and start the process from scratch. You should have the required financials in place 2 months before the date of application and apply around 30 days before expiry.

Why would anyone wait until the last minute to take care of something as important as your visa? Please explain that to me. You can do your extension to stay 30 days in advance in Udon Thani. Maybe, 45. Sorry, no sympathy from me.

Normaly 'overstay' on year extensions is not allowed as Sue says. But why not go 2 or 3 weeks before ? You don't lose any days. And SHOULD imm. asks for a document you don't have or even have to go to y'r embassy for something, then y'r Fxxxx.

Besides overstay, you will have to do the whole processing of applying fo a non-O. Unfortunately IO doesn‘t care about your situation running out of time due to the bank statement duration.

By the way, which bank takes over a week to print out a 1 year statement?

most ppl started off with bkk bank as it's the only bank that allows tourist visa to open a bank acct( not anymore recently) many does not want to shift the funds around to complicate things at the immigration...I always request 2x 6mths statement from my app and print them out for the bank staff to stamped and signed while requesting for the letter....

Yes, that's my experience from the last 15 years. If you (or your local Immigration) want it "original", stamped and signed you have to order it in your branch and the Headqurter will send it there within 3-7 days. The branch can only print statements up to three month... as far as I know.

But... probably they changed something, I will know it for sure in about 3 weeks... 😁

Yes you could do it.

You would receive an overstay without a fine because of closure.

As said it makes no sense to do it that way.

I am not an expert, but I think their visa would have expired, so they would have to start the whole process again and probably have to leave Thailand to get a new visa or visa exempt stamp. I think it's true they would not receive a fine, but everything else makes it a very bad idea.

and you would be wrong. This is how it works. If immigration is closed on the day you are supposed to expire, you are able to go the next working day without paying a fine. Now if you were late any other day you would pay the overstay and apply for your extension. Most offices will allow some leeway on a short overstay and you can pay the fines and continue.

Best to do it before. Some immigration offices allow up to 45 days before. Don’t let your extension lapse or you’ll have to start again

Yes, I realize that. I was out of the country and only just returned so I am waiting to receive my bank statement which takes a week and a day or 2 extra would be good. Now that is cleared up so I don't get more criticisms, is there anyone that knows the answer to the question?

OK, so Bangkok Bank. Here's a tip for you. When you request your statements from the bank there is an option on the form to receive them by email, they will cover the same dates as the ones you pick up physically from the branch. They run the statement process overnight so you get them at some point the following morning, from memory mine arrived just before noon.

it depends entirely on your IO. In Samui, they have a whole stack of requirements and the bank statements are not even 25%. It’s also now a 7 week process involving 3 trips to the office…

Yes. 45 days before expiry, go to Immigration with all documentation except bank stuff and medical certificate. At that point, you make an appointment date and time to come back just before your visa expires to present the remaining documents. 📃 You then pay the fee and they ask you to come back in a week to pick up your passport. 7 weeks…

This was my first 12 month extension of my Non O.

thank you but I’m not really sure why people are taking such an interest in my visa status. 😂

Som dude told me that I’m on a marriage visa which I am NOT.

I am very aware of which visa I applied for and what was stamped in my passport when I arrived.

As I said in my initial post, I came in on a Non O visa and recently got my 12 month extension of stay based on being 50+ years of age and a lot of people refer to this as a retirement visa.

One week for the statement sounds like Bangkok Bank. If so... you do know that you can order the statement via the banking app? You'll get it within 24h per email. Just print it out then at the next copy shop.

Yes, any other Bank can do it "to go", just Bangkok Bank need to order it from the Headquarter in Bangkok (in the branch they can do only up to three month). Well... that's how I experienced it in the last 15 years, but maybe it changed recently... I will know it in about 3 weeks... :-)

the one from the app is not always acceptable to immigration. Plus it only covers 12 months including the current month, so if you request it today it will only go back to the 1st July which might not be sufficient

The immigration know that it is impossible to get the 12 month statement to "today" from Bangkok Bank, since it always comes from Bangkok per snail mail (up to 7 days old) to your branch... that's why they accept it. Or... you order it per email... than it's max. 2 days old. The other one, the "today" statement (Bank letter), has to be fresh from the day you apply, that's correct.

usually the bank guarantee letter can also be up to 7 days old but not everywhere. The bank book must be updated on the day

I went into a Bangkok Branch and ordered 12 months worth and was told it would take 5 days to arrive via email. The file arrived the following day. I called BB’s call centre beforehand and was told I could not order via email nor phone. Only option was to go to a branch…

Not via phone or email, that's correct. In the branch (normally same or next day per email or 2-5 days per snail mail) or in the app... "more services" -> "request account statement".

I was offered the statements via email for the first time ever last week. I only discovered they could be emailed to me last year as the bank managed to lose the statements I ordered and didn't have another 5 working days to get snail mail replacements. Oddly they can only email them to you and not to the branch
