Get your extension of stay after you are there 15 days. Some offices don't issue the extension if you haven't been in Thailland for at least 15 days (possibly 45 days if you are there on a 60 day TR visa).
Need:
- 1900 THB cash
- Passport picture (NOT photocopy--you must have a color photo) (separate from the one in your passport)
- Photocopy of your passport info page (the one with your name and picture)
- Photocopy of your entry stamp (you get this in your passport upon entry to Thailand)
- Photocopy of TM.6 departure card (They will give you this paper upon entry to Thailand)
- TM.7 "Application for Extension of Temporary Stay in The Kingdom" (They will give you this form at the immigration police office)
- Take a pen. They would not loan me one and I had to go and buy one.
Depends on when and where but it takes about a half day. Go to the immigration police office early in the morning before they open and get in line. It's a government bureauocracy like everywhere else in the world.
Paul Stephens 30 days visa-exempt OR 60 days TR visa +30 extension is no bother. You can only get an additional 30 one time per entry. After your 30 days extension you have to exit.
Depends on the immigration officer. Some staple it, some don't. I recommend that people ask the hotel desk to staple it in if the immigration officer didn't.
I can only guess he got an immigration officer on a bad day that just got cheated on by his GF because I have personally entered with a visa in my passport many times and never been even told "sawatdekrab" nonetheless asked about money or anything else.
With a visa already in your passport? Done it many times myself. Always proved funds in advance to get the visa, never been asked at the airport with already having a visa, and $10,000 USD is ridiculous. Most people don't even have that much money in the bank.
