You do not want an OA visa. Google about insurance requirements. Just get an O visa and extend it in Thailand.

I haven't read of any amendment, but I guess it's possible. I payed close attention when they changed the law and haven't read anything about a change. Hope I'm not wrong.

If you are staying in the same company it's no longer necessary to do that. However, obviously, you cant do work that's forbidden to foreigners.
