TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on creating a prenuptial agreement before marrying a Thai national, including recommendations for legal firms, expected costs, and additional suggestions for the process. Key points indicate the importance of both partners having separate legal representation to ensure validity in the USA and understanding Thai marriage laws, which generally ensure a 50/50 split of joint assets unless otherwise specified. Additionally, the user inquires about places to watch the Super Bowl and stores for American products in Thailand.

If there is no formal, paper marriage, can the partner claim assets?

Theres a basic prenup built into the Thai marriage paperwork. You can declare what's 100% yours and hers prior to marriage. After marriage its
*****
in standard Thai law, of what you accumulate together, unless you find a way round it prior.

Thai legal marriage is recognized in most countries. You'll need it if you apply for a spouse Visa anyway.

That's what prenups are for you moron. And Thai civil lawhas no juristiction outside thailand therefore has no effect on premarital property. You also forgot that "farangs" cant 100%own property here. Married or not. If people want to marry and buy property here under laws that dont protect them, then they should think again or accept the risk.

Choose your wife wisely.

Bert Dougan. You might want to rethink that.. If "farangs" arent recognized in civil law in Thailand , then a marriage between a farang and Thai isn't worth a squirt of piss because it's a legal civil contract. Which in your eyes would deem the thai has no rights to marital property. Cant have one without the other.

If you think it will help you then go for it,,, if you think it will stop a Thai woman taking everything you have got then you are sadly mistaken,,, you won't even see it coming

We prepare (and highly suggest) a prenuptial. If in Bangkok. The Sportsman bar on Soi 13 usually has a nice size crowd, food, and isn't too packed.

You also need to make sure that your girlfriend is represented by a different firm for any chance of it being valid in the USA.

A marriage outside the US does not need to be registered in the Us as long as all legally registered in the country in which the marriage was performed.
Rick ***********
Sorry, you need to speak to a US lawyer working in Thailand. I'm not practicing in Thailand now but I've done prenups here previously.
Rick ***********
Yes. How and how much depends on your state.
