Has anyone added a new "category of permitted work" to their existing work permit while staying in the same company? (Bangkok). Is it possible to do? Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
It is typically not necessary to add a new category of permitted work to your existing work permit if you are staying with the same employer. However, it is essential to ensure that the work you intend to undertake is not prohibited for foreigners.

If you are staying in the same company it's no longer necessary to do that. However, obviously, you cant do work that's forbidden to foreigners.

Thanks for the information, now I can convince HR to recheck the procedure or to go to labour dept and recheck.

people sometimes are wrong. HR is in this case.

Nobody on this forum can change what HR told you. Can only point out they are not correct.

Go to the labor department with HR and all of you will hear the same. It’s no longer required to add or change positions.

I can add the new category of work as long as I quit the job and restart the procedure from the beginning(to stay in the same company)..that's what I was said by my HR.

if they say that he is wrong ? Then that should be the end of it. If he fires you cause you don’t quit, then take him to labor court and get severance and any additional compensation.

If labor dept says so, what other choice do I have?

Narmada Peiris your employer is dead wrong. Never been that case, having to quit your job to change positions. If he goes to the labor dept. they will tell him the same thing. It’s no longer required to change positions on your work permit or add positions.

I haven't read of any amendment, but I guess it's possible. I payed close attention when they changed the law and haven't read anything about a change. Hope I'm not wrong.

It is not in the forbidden category. I heard the same news that there is no requirement to add work categories as long as you have a valid work permit (since April 2018), but was there an amendment to that law? beacuse my employer says that I have to quit my job and restart if I want to change the category of work.
