@Bobby *******
- I've just been told that someone on a tourist VISA must do a border run to get an O VISA. But the O can be applied for at the Thai VISA office? Thanks in advance.

I don't understand the border run element. does that mean a border run is necessary in the getting of an O VISA?

Not sure why you need to put NO in bold. Neither I nor my fiance wants to be separated and we're simply looking for help and asking for it in a polite manner.

Away from that, thanks for your advice thus far.

I'm hearing that an O VISA is required to get married and stay here..

Thank you Robert.

If I was under a valid stamp, say Aug 31st, on a METV, would I be able to marry, and stay in Thailand, without needing to leave the country?

This is the best idea (with present information) - don't take any chances with an overstay if you don't have to, as a clean record can pay a dividend in future dealings with Thai immigration.

Note: the following pertains to my tourist METV with an expiration date of August 13th and a stamp-expiration date of May 17th...

The ladies at the desk told me (I'm paraphrasing):

Once the amnesty is over, you will be able to extend by 30 days as usual, and/or "do border runs" as usual. Why? Because the last entry date possible on your VISA is August 13th 2020 which is BEYOND the amnesty lifting date of July 31st.

They went on to say that some borders may actually open prior to the July 31st amnesty lifting, and that I should take this opportunity to do a border run (which I assume will give me a typical 60day entry stamp and I'll then be out of amnesty).

visiting chaengwattana to ask about this today:

"For holders of multiple entry visas, when the borders re-open, it is the group's opinion that you should bounce and get another entry stamp."

Thank you Tom, that clears up a lot!

Seems to me, my best course of due-dilligence is to visit office and extend per normal.

I don't want to be trapped in a "you took the amnesty and now things have improved you must return to your country within 7 days"
