What Are the Current Visa Conditions for a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa Holder in Thailand During the Amnesty?

Thanks for adding me!

I arrived on March 9th on a 6-months METV (multi entry tourist visa).

I was supposed to leave Thailand for my first 60-days "check-out /-in" around this time, but this is not doable at the time..

Some time back I was told I was covered by a VISA amnesty and did not need the the 60 days re-entry rules. But today I was told the amnesty does not cover my kind of VISA. I have searched both the internet and this FB-group and find conflicting information (see added pic..)

Can anyone please help me out with the correct status?:

1: Do I need to visit Thai Immigration to extend my stay, since I cannot leave the country after my first 60 days?

2: ..or am I covered by the amnesty and can stay without doing anything (visiting Chaeng Wattana or do border runs) until July 31st?

3: My VISA is valid until early September. Can I leave on July 31st and check back in to get the remaining month++ on my VISA?

4: (related to Q.3) If borders re-open before the end of the amnesty, can I/must I leave Thailand to "validate" my VISA? My aim is to stay until the end of the VISA-period (early September)

Thank you so much for this group! and THANKS again for any useful, trustworthy information regarding my situation.

Stay safe!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on whether they need to visit Thai Immigration to extend their stay on a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV), as they cannot leave the country for a required check-out. They are confused about the visa amnesty's applicability to their situation and have several questions about their stay until their visa's validity in September.

>I was supposed to leave Thailand for my first 60-days "check-out /-in" around this time, but this is not doable at the time

There is no "check in/ check out". On a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV), you can stay in Thailand for 60 days at a time. You can leave Thailand every day if you wanted to (assuming the borders were open).

>1: Do I need to visit Thai Immigration to extend my stay, since I cannot leave the country after my first 60 days?

No, you do not need to visit the local immigration office to extend your visa, you are covered by the automatic amnesty.

>2: ..or am I covered by the amnesty and can stay without doing anything (visiting Chaeng Wattana or do border runs) until July 31st?

You can stay no later then July 31. We don't know what will happen when the borders reopen

>3: My VISA is valid until early September. Can I leave on July 31st and check back in to get the remaining month++ on my VISA?

The visa would still be valid until early September. I don't know what the future requirements to reenter Thailand will be though :(

>4: (related to Q.2) If borders re-open before the end of the amnesty, can I/must I leave Thailand to "validate" my VISA? My aim is to stay until the end of the VISA-period (early September)

For holders of multiple entry visas, when the borders re-open, it is the group's opinion that you should bounce and get another entry stamp.

Note: the following pertains to my tourist METV with an expiration date of August 13th and a stamp-expiration date of May 17th...

The ladies at the desk told me (I'm paraphrasing):

Once the amnesty is over, you will be able to extend by 30 days as usual, and/or "do border runs" as usual. Why? Because the last entry date possible on your VISA is August 13th 2020 which is BEYOND the amnesty lifting date of July 31st.

They went on to say that some borders may actually open prior to the July 31st amnesty lifting, and that I should take this opportunity to do a border run (which I assume will give me a typical 60day entry stamp and I'll then be out of amnesty).

visiting chaengwattana to ask about this today:

"For holders of multiple entry visas, when the borders re-open, it is the group's opinion that you should bounce and get another entry stamp."
