Hi folks, a little advice if you may:

1. I have a METV Tourist VISA - expires Aug 12th 2020

2. Current entry stamp says May 12th 2020, but is "in amnesty" until July 31st

Question:

1. Can I get married under my current VISA / stamp / amnesty situation?

2. If no. Can I get the necesssary VISA without leaving Thai soil?

Many thanks in advance. Luke

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on the possibility of getting married in Thailand with a METV Tourist Visa that is about to expire, while currently being in amnesty. Responses indicate that a valid visa or stamp is needed to register the marriage, suggesting that marriage under current circumstances may not be possible. Additionally, it is suggested that the user would need a valid visa status for a certain period before applying for a new visa without leaving Thailand.

1. I do not think you can get married as a valid stay in a passport is needed to register the marriage at the Amphur,

2. No, you need 15 or some places even 21 valid days of stay left on your entry stamp and your stamp was until 12 May 2020.

I don't understand the border run element. does that mean a border run is necessary in the getting of an O VISA?

You need a new valid stay inside your passport, Your visa is still valid, so all you can do is leave Thailand and come back to get a new 60 day stay on entry.

But as you know the land borders are closed and tourist are not allowed to come into Thailand so this only option is not available at the moment. All you can do is sit down and relax, wait until the new announcement of what will happen after 31 July and follow those instructions.

@Robert ******
- thank you

So (new to this) - with a new "valid" stamp alongside my valid METV VISA - I can get married, and stay in Thailand as a married person, without needing to head back to the UK?

Yes, a new exit stamp from Thailand, a new entry stamp from another country, a new exit stamp from that country and a new entry stamp into Thailand, Then you get married and make sure you have enough days left to apply for a conversion of your tourist visa into a Non Immigrant O visa based on being married with a Thai National, which will give you 90 days of stay and before that ends you can apply for a 1 year Extension of Stay.

Not sure why you need to put NO in bold. Neither I nor my fiance wants to be separated and we're simply looking for help and asking for it in a polite manner.

Away from that, thanks for your advice thus far.

and
@Robert ******
took time to correctly answer your question.

I would also had replied with the NO in caps. As a way to emphasize the fact.

Good luck...

Best Wishes on your upcoming marriage.

Thank you Robert.

If I was under a valid stamp, say Aug 31st, on a METV, would I be able to marry, and stay in Thailand, without needing to leave the country?

You can not make a border run with a tourist visa at the moment, so the answer is NO
