My partner is in a similar situation, and finishes her contract on the 31st. I'm not sure if I am understanding correctly, but is it possible to cancel the work permit a few days earlier, for example on the 28th? And then as long as the school says the contract is until the 31st she will be stamped in until then? Or is it only possible to cancel the work permit on the last day of the contract?

Fortunately I also have the British one. So I think to be safe I'll use that one for any places I need to apply for a visa in advance and then use the Aus one for visa free entry. Then if I have any issues on the Aus I should be able to say I will enter on the British one

A quick update. I made my way down to the Aus embassy this morning and they said there were no issues with the passport. So hopefully all should be fine.

Thank you, would there be any issues leaving other countries ie Thailand? I also have my British passport so I was thinking if there are any issues leaving Australia, I can just say I plan to arrive in the next stop using that one.

My main concern was getting back into Australia later on.

Like this, i managed to get into Thailand without any issues, but thought it could be an issue if i get a stricter immigration officer somewhere

You do for Non-immigrant F visas, though he mentioned he has a work permit which I don't think you get on those.

@Hi**
, the fee depends on your nationality, so I'm not sure if it is still that amount. But I would say it probably would not have changed much if it has. It's also usually better to pay in USD rather than THB.

They also seem to add on 1USD sometimes if you are at the border early, after 4pm or on holidays and weekends. I'm not sure if you can get around the extra fees.

You can, they have a photocopy machine inside. I think it might have been around 5 baht per page.

I mentioned it briefly in the second part of my post. Instead of heading to the border from the consulate, I got a bus from the central station in Vientiane for about 85 baht. It takes you to the bus station in Udon next to the central plaza shopping centre. I then caught a metred taxi from the entrance of central plaza, which cost 70 baht. I'm not sure if the metred taxis are always there, but there were 3 when I was there. I think there is another bus station further out which might be where you got dropped off. I believe there might be a songtaew that connects the two and also might go to or near the airport. I remember reading it was number 15, but i'm not sure if that is correct and/or still accurate.
