Just want to confirm the steps. I am leaving my job at my school. I have a non-B and work permit until March 31. I plan on flying to Udon Thani and going to Vientiane for a SETV.

1. I must get a letter from my school cancelling the work permit/non-B on that specific date (March 31).

2. I can leave the country 24 hours after cancellation (so April 1 is okay to leave?)

3. I give the letter to the immigration guard at Nong Khai.

Anything inaccurate or missing?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To confirm the process for canceling your Non-B visa and work permit while planning to travel for a SETV, follow these steps: 1. Obtain a cancellation letter from your school stating your last day of work is March 31, which will also cancel your work permit. 2. Cancel your extension of stay at the immigration office on the same day before leaving the country. 3. You can leave the country after the cancellation date, meaning you can depart on April 1. Note that you do not need to show this letter to the immigration officers at the Nong Khai border.

you take the letter from canceling the work permit to the immigration office and cancel your current extension. If your paperwork is dated from your employer that your last day is Mar 31st when they cancel the extension they'll stamp you in until then,

You don't show any of that paperwork to the passport stampers at the Nong Khai border

Thank you!

depends on the immigration office, some require a pile of documentation and some will let you cancel it with just the receipt of your work permit being canceled. You'd have to check with the office you use.

Wonderful. But, the extension needs to have a letter to cancel, right?

In the File section of the group is a PDF about canceling a work permit. You can do it on your own with no documentation from the employer.

I still need paperwork from the employer, correct?

It's pretty straightforward and simple for you to go cancel your own work permit (assuming you have it in your possession). It's just one small form at the Ministry of Labour.

Thank you for the information. Quite difficult to get accurate information from my employer it seems

there is no law that says the employer has to cancel the work permit. You can take it right to the dept of labour yourself fill out the form cancel it and give it right back,.

You can't cancel your extension at a border, you cancel it at the immigration office before hand with documentation from your employer and your resignation paperwork,

Sorry for bringing up again. I am leaving via Nong Khai land border March 31. What do I need to cancel my extension at the land border? Just the letter?

I ask because my employer said the law states that they must cancel the work permit themselves, not the employee. They were upset I was leaving by land. Problem is, they want me to return my work permit next Friday, March 30 and that makes it difficult to get to immigration before. I'm concerned they won't cancel it before I go or I won't have time. Do I need a work permit cancellation receipt to cancel my extension, or is the letter sufficient?

Thanks!

Based on information above, you can cancel everything a few days before, as long as the paperwork from the employer specifies the 31st as the final day.

My partner is in a similar situation, and finishes her contract on the 31st. I'm not sure if I am understanding correctly, but is it possible to cancel the work permit a few days earlier, for example on the 28th? And then as long as the school says the contract is until the 31st she will be stamped in until then? Or is it only possible to cancel the work permit on the last day of the contract?

And I can do that all before March 31, but still be stamped into Thailand until March 31, correct?

@Dan ******
get the paperwork go cancel your work permit at the Ministry of Labour, then go to the immigration office and cancel your extension and at the same time buy the 7 day stamp if you need it.

Great. So I get letter from school, go to immigration, cancel my extension, but remained stamped in until March 31. On March 31, I must leave the country or apply for extension before and get 7 days. Right?
Robert *******
Okay, than you have to cancel your Work Permit, with the papers you get there you cancel your Extension of Stay on the same day at Immigration Office and leave the country. If you can not leave the same day you can apply for a NEW Extension and if you do not meet the requirements you get 7 days to leave the country.

Are you in Thailand with an Non B visa and do border runs every 90 days or on an Extension of Stay and report at Immigration every 90 days?
Dan *******

Wow, I forgot to include that, my apologies! I have an extension of stay. First Non-B was 90 days and the school extended it and reports 90 days at Chaeng Wattana.
