licence expiry means exactly that.... it's no longer legal to use on the roads, so if you're not driving, it's not a problem

The letter can be up to 7 days beforehand with the bank book updated the same day as the extension (although I've had the day before accepted before)

I usually get the letter and do the bank book the day before and not had a problem so far at Chiang Mai office. Of course, that can always change with a new head of immigration
