Why was my DTV only issued until my passport expiration instead of 5 years?

My passport number was incorrect on my visa when it was issued and I never noticed if until the IO noticed it at the airport, he stamped my passport for 6 months and told me to visit the immigration office here in Phuket and they would sort it which they did so might be worth a trip when you get here
