If you have your work permit and are on an extension with 90 day check ins, you can talk with your school about exiting and transferring the visa to a new school if you have one lined up already.

USA - the school said that they did not have any recommended embassy or consulate - "all of them are strict now" was what they told me. However, I thought I read someone say that Laos was, in particular, difficult.
