You can find several posts of rejections and then successfully approved via MT/SP. Have you contacted the embassy in Vietnam about your application.

Yes, i did the first time and have done so a few other times. If the check in staff ask about a departure ticket then you show them your DTV.

If you do the SP route, there is the risk of being asked to show proof of continued activity even with a border bounce. Although not many have been asked so far.. With workcation, no need to pay for a course to remain. .You are all set for Workcation though with your background.
