Anonymous participant Hi John, the person arrived on visa exempt, chose language school, applied for Ed visa, did visa run for tourist visa to allow time for that to be processed. That visa lasted

months. You are not allowed to work with that visa, so no history of payslips, etc possible. School advised could apply for new 6 month Ed visa. Process is that old Ed visa is cancelled, put in new application, do visa run to obtain new visa exempt while Ed visa is being processed. Arriving back into Bangkok she was questioned by immigration and told no more tourist or visa exempt entries. Told to apply for DTV if wants to stay longer.

I guess essentially the problem is that she’ll be applying with a letter offering employment and a contract that hasn’t started yet (which might not look very rock solid). If she starts remote work before the DTV is approved, that will mean she’s been working and her Ed/tourist/visa exempt conditions don’t allow that.

thanks. I’ve read through dozens of posts. Friend is in a difficult situation so looking to minimise risk.

Scott Edwards not sure what you mean Scott. Concern with the person I’m helping is that some consulates seem to be looking for evidence behind the documents rather than taking them at face value. And new gig may not look convincing but person has had no right to work previously so don’t have much choice. Immigration has told her no more short visas.
