Why are there increased checks and interrogations upon entry to Thailand?

Because over the last few years since they extended the 30 visa free days to 60 , many have abused it to live in Thailand instead of for tourism which it is intended .

 You do not go to the British Embassy , you have to use VFS. They are in Bangkok and Chang Mai .

 I have been with UOB in Pattaya for over 15 years and know the assistant Manager very well . She told me they can't open a new Bank account for any foreigner without a long term visa . Instructions from head office .
