only visa exempt as he was told in kl Thai consulate they don't issue visas for brit passport. Is that strange?

Thanks guys... He's been here 4 months and overstayed only due to glitches with getting a work permit... an agency had his passport. He has a kbank atm card but I'll make sure he also gets a bundle of cash in kl before leaving... :-)

strange to say I am incorrect when what I said is exactly what they did. Reissued and stamped retirement visa in my new passport with same dates as previous one.

Make sure they copy both visa and reentry permit. I didn't check so lost my retirement visa when I left for a trip. Now doing it all again :-(

In phuket that would not work. If landlord is not present they also require a stamped 'power of attorney' from them. I did it this morning.

I did it this morning in phuket town. If your landlord is not doing it for you, you must now also have a stamped power of attorney from them. Yes really!! Fortunately my landlady is lovely and works in phuket town... but for most people a real hassle
