yes, if you have a Thai ID card, you are not REALLY a foreigner anymore

Actually by law all foreigners are required to carry their passports on them everywhere you go in Thailand

You need your passport, work permit is not official proof of identification

Never a good idea to have an overstay stamp in your passport, can make entry into other countries difficult. I would be very worried about being asked by Police for your passport in those 2 overstay days, then it is off to a Thai jail, and a 5 year ban

and if they are REALLY nitpicking, and looking for a reason to deny you entry, they might ask for proof of accommodation for the entire stay

when I showed them the onward ticket, they asked for the receipt as well, which I obviously couldn't provide, so they wouldn't accept it

I also tried in in the past, and Qatar airways asked for a receipt with the ticket, so it didn't work for me

not always, it seems airlines now also ask for a receipt for the ticket you bought, which you obviously cannot provide with onward
