TLDR : Answer Summary
While arriving in Thailand on a one-way ticket may not cause issues at the immigration checkpoint, it is highly likely that airlines will require proof of onward travel before boarding. Experiences vary among travelers; some have entered Thailand multiple times without being asked about return tickets, while others have faced inquiries from airline staff. To avoid potential problems, it is advisable to book an onward ticket before departure.

I’ve flown into BKK many times from the US, mostly one way flights, on a range of carriers, and never once been asked for any documentation. This is obviously not the experience everyone has though, and they CAN ask, so might as well have onward travel booked that you can cancel and not have to worry about it.

Use the one way rental website for an onward flight and you are good to go.

None at all arrival. But you won’t be boarding your flight from USA which may cause you some irritation

maybe they will ask when boarding, maybe they wont>
your chance's of being asked for one without a visa are much higher
have you used this? It looks like it solves my problem

I have flown to Bangkok on Delta Airlines two times since 2019. Both times they asked to see return ticket. The first time I didn't have a visa and the second time I had a single entry tourist visa.

I've been in and out of Thailand many times in the past 5 years.
I consider it my home now.
I've always entered on a tourist exempt one way ticket.
not always, it seems airlines now also ask for a receipt for the ticket you bought, which you obviously cannot provide with onward

If entering visa exempt then possibly. It's normally airline staff that ask, seems to depend on the who you fly with. You can always buy a cheap ticket to a neighbouring country or an onward ticket to satisfy the requirement.

No, not when arriving, your problems will start much earlier, chances are very good that the airline won't even let you board the plane with a one way ticket

You don't give enough information for us to know. What kind of visa do you have, if any? And it's the airline that might be the problem.
