DTV has to do everything, it does not make you a VIP in Thailand. That is reserved for the Elite Visa's but even they will have to do this :D

Anonymous participant Over the years, yes. I've done Cambodian border in Surin and they tell you to go for one day. I've also come back the same day, it's a mix and depends on the officer in charge at the time.

You can but always advisable not to. Go check out some local restaurants, stay the night and come back.

I'm intrigued, is this $1350 and you pass to get the DTV and then after that, do whatever or is it a case of being enrolled for this for the next 5 years? If so, that's insane.

It will be the same as any other Visa. If you are not employed, you need to show you have savings or some way of sustaining your lifestyle in Thailand.
