Go as planned to Thailand and you get 60 days on arrival, during that time take trip to a neighbouring country and apply for DTV.

Or use an agency to process the DTV for you while you enjoy your stay in Thailand.

I’m not sure, I heard from others that it needs to be cash.

I always carry cash. It’s not much, €500 each and you’re good. I’ve never ever been asked to show funds or accommodation or return ticket, but I always have it just in case.

It’s always better to have something you won’t need than to need something you don’t have…

but having money in your bank account might not be acceptable to whoever asks to see funds, usually they need to see cash.

It can be any currency basically as long as it exceeds 20k baht per person or 40k baht for a family.
