TLDR : Answer Summary
Opening a bank account with a DTV visa in Thailand can be challenging, as many banks prefer clients with long-term visas. Currently, Krung Thai Bank is noted as an option in Bangkok. Some users suggest looking for agents who can assist with the process, although fees can vary significantly, with reports of costs ranging from 11,000 to 40,000 THB depending on the location and services. It's essential to have a permanent address and possibly a residence certificate to increase your chances of account approval. Many banks are wary of granting accounts to individuals on short-term visas due to regulatory pressures and concerns over the stability of clients.
very difficult and NEAR to impossible especially if you don't use an agent, but it's not 100% impossible, as lots of people are getting accounts everyday, including yesterday and today 🤷🏻
Not true - quite possible on a few other visas that do not have a WP. I do not have a WP and I might go and open a new account in a new location tomorrow :-)
sure I’ll bet too, I’ll open a new account with an agent and profit 5,000b lets meet at central plaza Pattaya 🤣
There’s literally visas that require you to have X amount of money in a Thai bank account. How do you think they open a bank account without a work permit? 😅
It is quite hard but some agents might still do it for a hefty fee. Pattaya seems to be out. I saw a quote for Chiang Mai at 40k which is frankly outrageous. Look in the group for Bangkok agents. They might have an option. Last I saw was around 15k depending on passport.
40 Fu*** thousand?’ You have to be kidding me? That’s absolutely insane!
I’m guessing agents are jacking up prices to make up for the losses now that more people are applying for DTV visas instead of getting overcharged for things like education visas

Anonymous participant 366 It is insane and taking the pi55. It is genuinely harder to get bank accounts opened due to 2 reasons 1) new rules due to scammers using mule accounts 2) Thailand signed up ti the CRS ie Common Reporting Standards. Each of these is making it harder to open accounts and banks reluctant to open them too. Extra work for not much return.
Essentially, these agents are exploiting people’s desperation—just like they did during COVID, when they hiked up their prices knowing that some people were desperate to stay in Thailand. An all too familiar pattern I’ve seen before!

Close to nowhere.
You need a long term visa to be eligable for a Thai bank account, not a tourist visa as DTV.
It is a misunderstanding that you need a Thai bankaccount.
Scroll the group, and see all the many previous answers of that question.
Banks in Thailand are like everywhere in the world, interested in having good stable custormers, that have a permanent address, a steady easy traceable income, and use the account all year round.
That is why the banks are reluctant to give accounts to people on short time ( read: tourist ) visas, and who only spend part of the year in Thailand.
Don’t expect to get a residence certificat, until you have stayed at a permanent adress in at least 3 month, since that is what the residence certificat should confirm.
Furthermore the added attention on whitewashing of money, is an added burden on the banks, so reluctant depositing large amounts isn’t a guaranteed way to open an account.
The value of a resident certificat, had gone down, since Immigration Officers are giving them to people that are not on a longterm visa, or have stayed severel months at 1 adress in Thailand, so even if it is a formal requirement, the bank make up their own assesment of the stability of the want-to-be customer.
Be aware there is a error in the start of the article ( and several other copy - paste media with the same article )
A Thai Bankaccount has never been a requirement to get DTV, on the contrary it has been one of the big advantage over other visa, that you could get DTV as long as you could show 500.000 Baht equivalent in any bank anywhere in the world.
It has never been the intention that DTV visaholders should be in need of a Thai bankaccount.
