the thing is the airline does not know that . And they not know the laws of each country. They just use their system . As well it a rules for the airlines to request a return or forward ticket . It’s a rules in most countries. Unfortunately the airlines counter can’t know the immigration laws of each country. Schengen visa requirements return tickets . Immigration does not check if a return ticket is there the airline is . They must fly the passengers back on their cost and are responsible for.
