What should I do if asked for 6 months of accommodation proof while applying for a Thai visa from abroad?

Ridiculous request. Why would a person book/rent a place they haven't seen for 6 months? When I applied, I gave the Lis Angeles embassy the name and address of a the hotel I plan to stay in for a few days (4) while I look for a place and attend my first cooking class. No questions were asked.
