Hello, I am currently doing my research on moving to Thailand. I have been to Thailand a few times throughout my life. I have been "retired" since 30 years old. I get a pension from the US Government.
I am exploring 2 visa options.I do understand that rules constantly change.
DTV visa by way of Muay Thai training.
Question is do I need to re enroll every time I leave/re enter Thailand?
Retirement Visa- Currently I am 47 so would have to wait til I turn 50. I have a constant monthly pension since I was 30 years old. Pension is well over the 65k monthly requirement. I do not wish to open a bank account in Thailand put over $25k (which I do have in my US bank now). Mainly because I have heard that Thai banks have been freezing accounts of foreign holders. And that the money has to be in the account for 2 months prior to getting the visa.
Any advise someone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
We are retiring to Thailand beginning of 2026. My initial plan was just fly to thailand with my wife whom holds Thai citizenship and then i was going to apply once we were in the the country sounded like it was easier but now with banking accounts being more difficult to open i am on the thought of applying before we leave the states but with this i have minor police record from 30+ years ago. Nothing felony or serious has anyone ran into issues when applying at a Thai Embassy in their own country with very old issues.
We are a British couple (over 50) who have taken early retirement and are considering relocating to Koh Samui.
We currently live in Northern Cyprus so do not have access to a Thai Embassy/Consulate in order to apply in person for a 90 non immigrant O visa prior to arriving in Thailand.
I have looked at the Thai E-Visa website to try to apply online but I cannot see this visa type as an option (just a long stay OA visa or a Tourist visa).
My question is if we arrive on an initial 60 day Tourist visa will I be able to open a bank account with this visa type, in order to then meet the financial requirements to apply in Koh Samui for the non immigrant O visa, and subsequent extension?
Myself and my wife both over 50 retired and both uk citizens looking who intend to apply for a Thai non -o visa , should we apply jointly or individually ?
If we applied together can we have a joint bank account like we do in the uk?
As I understand it if we apply individually we would both need to deposit 800 k in an account which we could do but looking for advice as to what’s easiest route to go .
Hi we will be arriving into Thailand in a few weeks. We are UK Citizens and have been travelling Indonesia so we will be entering on the 30 day visa free entry. We would like to look into applying for a retirement visa but are so confused on which one to apply for. We are both over 50 not drawing on a pension yet but do have enough savings in the bank. Any help will be greatly appreciated. 😀
My conversation with Benjamin Hays on acquiring an "out of Thailand visa" at Argentina (US passport/Argentina residency) was paused until today. Visited the Thai Embassy Argentina and they require a US Passport holder to apply in the US for visa, regardless of having Argentina residency. So, avoiding a return to US, have the goal of living Thailand long term and going through the in country hoops to do so. Starting with entering on a 'Thai Pass', would appreciate advice on a scheme of the necessaries to make extensions and conversions to reach a Non Immigrant Visa, as a retired person. Am prepared to live with short term stays, extensions, and If necessary leaving and re-entering the country. From earlier advice it looks possible, just not stitched together yet into a plan. Thanks in advance your advice.
Does anyone have any recent experience on being able to open a Thai bank account on a tourist visa? Tried a few banks and branches earlier and was told work permit is needed.
