TLDR : Answer Summary
Australians can stay in Thailand for 3 to 4 months primarily through a combination of a visa exemption and extensions. Upon arrival, they receive a 60-day visa exemption stamp, with an option for a 30-day extension at a cost of ฿1,900 THB, giving a total of 90 days. For longer stays, a border run can be executed to re-enter and obtain another exemption. For those considering a more extended stay, a multiple-entry tourist visa is suggested, allowing stays of up to 9 months. Regarding banking, individuals on short-term visas typically cannot open a Thai bank account.

60 day visa exemption stamp on arrival, 30 day extension for ฿1,900 THB at your local Soromor (immigration office)…that gives you 90 days 3 months

Border Bounce to neighboring county or wherever for an additional 60 day visa exemption stamp on arrival back into Thailand…you now have 5 months in Thailand…but wait there’s more…you can also get another 30 day extension for ฿1,900 THB at your local sotomor(immigration office)

This will get you 180 days or 6 months in total

For the haters…life happens and plans change that’s why I put the additional 30 day extension in my response

exactly!

and Tania Carbonaro

you’ve asked for bank requirements?

you won’t be able to do anything with a thai bank without a long term visa

(meaning for any short stayers or on tourist visas you won’t get a bank account)

well TiT is always in effect

Right now you can’t get a bank acct on a visa exemption, DTV, Ed visa

But like everything in Thailand things change super super fast…and no one can forecast the future especially when it comes to visa requirements

Oops ,up to 9 months

Get a multiple entry tourist visa ,you can get up to 90 days from that

Don't really need visa..

Australian passport gives you 60 days and you can get 30 day extension..than do border run and get same again
Jordan *****
You can stay 4 months by simply doing a border run. Visas are for longer stays and not worth getting if you only want to stay for 3-4 months.

Completely depends on your nationality. Without that crucial bit of information we can’t help you.
