TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is planning to travel to Thailand on an Australian passport for 60 days to marry a Thai citizen. Important points from the community include that to apply for a marriage-based Non-O visa after marriage, they would need to have 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account. For a retirement visa, the requirement is 800,000 THB. Opening a Thai bank account may be challenging without a long-term visa. Additionally, they should secure a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage from the Australian Embassy before marrying. The conversation emphasizes the importance of being cautious about rushing into marriage and ensuring thorough legal documentation.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
Firstly you wonât be able to get married within a few days of arrival because youâll need a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage (CNI) from the Australian Embassy.
Most other embassies call it an âAffirmation or Freedomâ same thingâĶ
From my previous TWO marriage experiences here it has to remain there for 7 days and anyone can oppose it if theyâre having a bad day! ðĪĢ
I donât mean to be nosey but the rush rush to get married sounds concerning and typical of a scam.
I have to ask,
Did you meet this person on a dating site and this is the first time youâll be meeting each other?
only last 10 years..She comes Australia I come Thailand

You are mixing two different things.
If you apply for a retirement visa and then extension of that, it is irrelevant whether you are married to a thai or not.
The money requirement is 800K banked in Thailand to get the extension. For the initial visa you will not be able to get that in Thailand unless you already hold a Thai bank account. For the initial 90 day visa you need to show 800k in the bank. Can be your bank in your home country if applying from the Thai embassy there before you travel. If you already have a thai bank account, you can transfer in the 800K once you are here, and then apply for the 90 day initial visa here.
If you are married to a Thai, another option is to get a non o based on marriage to a thai.
The money requirements for that is 400K.
Not many immigration offices in Thailand will sell you the initial 90 day non o for that, so you will probably have to get it from a Thai embassy in another country. Again easier to just apply for before you travel.
In any case, with the new situation where it is next to impossible to open a bank account in Thailand on a tourist visa/visa exempt, you are far better of getting the visa before you travel, regardless of which of the two types of non 0 you go for.
Unless you already have a Thai bank account in your name only.
You need to Book an Appointment with the Australian Embassy in Bangkok (or if in Southern Thailand, then the Australian Consulate in Phuket) to get 2 Required Certificates from the Australian Embassy: the CNI Certificate and Certified Copy of your Passport before going to the local Thai District Office ( āļāļĩāđāļ§āđāļēāļāļēāļĢ āļāļģāđāļ āļ in the Provinces or āļŠāļģāļāļąāļāļāļēāļāđāļāļ in Bangkok) to get a Thai Marriage Certificate
Aside from Visa which the group will advise, âcost of livingâ, if live South (Pattaya-Phuket) would suggest 100,000-200,000 THB per month plus accommodation. If middle or north, country, 70-100k.

Peter best you look at the thai imigration website got all the information there you need. If not yet married best to get single entry non O and then extend as required either marriage less money in bank but need proof of marriage and residence.

Get a non o visa (90 day) before you get to Thailand Open bank account deposit funds (400k thb for marriage to Thai or 800 k thb for retirement) go to immigration before 90 day visa runs out an apply for 1 year extension based on marriage or retirement
Personally I think retirement is easier as marriage has lots of fuss to prove that you are really married home visits etc Good luck
What are the requirements regarding the deposit of 800,000 baht? Cash only? Or can it be transferred electronically from an account outside of Thailand? Thanks.
transfer is best from oâseas just make sure you mark it as âlongstayâ funds or something like that

To get a Retirement visa in Thailand you need to have the money in a Thai bank account. It is not possible to open a Thai bank account on a 60 day visa free entry or on a tourist visa, only on a long ter, visa. Best get a Retirement visa in your home country, then you can open a bank account once you are in Thailand.

You can apply either for a "married to a Thai" visa which requires 400k baht in a Thai bank account, or a "retirement" visa which requires 800k baht.
Be aware, if you're getting the Australian Pension, if you become a resident of Thailand you will lose the tax concessions, and your pension will be taxed at 30% in Australia
you can spend it as soon as your extension is granted the 800k has to stay for 3 months and can drop to 400k then back to 800k 2 months before the next extension
Correct. The Pension Portability rule is covered in this video

You would register your marriage at the local amphur office. If you have been married before, you will documents from Australia showing you are legally divorced. You will need a certified copy of these and a certified copy of your passport, ith of which you would get from your embassy here in Thailand. Once married, you can the apply for your Non-O, and you will need to have āļŋ400,000 in your thai bank account. If you dont have a thai bank account, that is where you will run into difficulty. Good luck

Visa exempt very difficult to open bank accounts these days even with agents it can be hard or cost more to grease the wheels

You can get retirement visa after 50 not 65.
Should have got non O visa before going to Thailand. Easier to open bank account if you don't have one already
there is still a hold on opening a bank account due to issues in the south of Thailand ðđð as far as I am aware that was about or a week ago when I was renewing my retirement visa and multiple entry visa.
But having said that the ban on foreigners opening bank accounts may have been lifted i donât know yet
difficult to open without long term visa married or not. You get OA or OX visa when in Australia they are already multiple entry. Get non O then year extension you buy multiple entry at the airport after you have it.
my agent told me it was for new people who want retirement visa at this stage, Thai banks are cracking down on the scammers in the south so foreigners will be getting disadvantage for the time being, but should go back to normal soon I hope
