TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the requirements for opening a bank account at Bangkok Bank's Jomtien branch near the Immigration office. Participants discuss various documents needed, such as passport, visa, and potentially other forms of ID like a driving license or a certificate of residence. There are mixed opinions on the necessity of using agents to facilitate the process, with some users sharing personal experiences of successfully opening accounts with tourist visas or through agents. Additionally, the dialogue highlights variations in requirements across different branches and the evolving rules when it comes to banking for expats in Thailand.

when I opened my second account in Chiang Mai I needed only to show my passport and visa. That was 8 months. Of course the North of Thailand is much more relaxed

very strange and bizarre why are they asking for a driving license?
I went there same branch together with lady from agent. All what I had to show was passport and certificate of registration from Inmigration. Nobody has asked me for anything else.

This is an Ad by an Agent to discourage you from opening your oun and the enrich His / Her bank account .
If one bank refuses, or requires insur, or DL, smile and go to another branch.

Every branch is different and has different requirements.
Keep looking or use an agent.

Wow!! I opened an account with Krungsri and did it on a tourist visa. I’m still living in the UK 5 years later. Just took my Thai wife and her sister along no problems. I just make a transaction or 2 every year to keep it open.
I did Bangkok Bank and Krungthai Bank on visa exemption. Now they won’t even let me open a second savings account within the same bank without a long stay visa.
Not enough. I had non o visa marriage and all those papers. They wanted to see my work permit and then sell 10k insurance top of that. Lucky I didn't go trap😅

Certificate of residence? Citizen ID? What are these haha
I’ll have a 6 month tourist visa + 1 year rental contract + 2 British IDs
if you are doing it by yourself; a tourist visa will not work 90% of the time, at not least in Bangkok. The laws have changed last year around June. You now need a Non-O visa or property(condo), to open a bank account.
do you want to see my thai wife? My family and know I live in Nonthaburi? I'm a software engineer with the ability to work anywhere I want. I have residents in USA. Currently in the process of staying in Thailand long term this May. So yes my words are from recent experiences and dealing with the Thai Embassy and Banks.
So tell me are you smoking something? Or does your age just make you grumpy and rude?
you are correct. Without a non-o it's near impossible to get a bank account. The rules have changed.
An Ed visa is a possibile shortcut and much easier. A good school can help. Might not be an attractive option for some but it does work. My son got one in a month. After that... Bank account? No problem. 👍

How can someone have a citizen ID card without a bank account?
It's probably possible in some circumstances, but most people will not have one.
I could not get that phone number to work. Maybe just my ineptitude regarding dailing a phone number here. I tried like a dozen ways. Nothing went through.
Best to use Line or WhatsApp. I’m in Norway now but I sent her a message a couple of days ago and asked about her price and procedure since I had recommended her. (Just used her for renewing driver licenses my self. Managed to open account in two banks on visa exemption some years ago). You can send a message in FB too, as I did first time, but she don’t use messenger in her work so it could take some time but she will answer. (This is WhatsApp)
Oh OK.......thanks for all that! I did try Line and had no luck for whatever reason. Operator error I am sure. I also tried Messenger but all I could find was a beauty shop. Again, operator error I would guess.
Do you happen to know if she does non-o retirement visa's please? Thanks much!
She can do Non O visa and extensions as well, but you’ll need to speak with her. As said just used her one time for licenses but she is nice, fair priced and reliable.
No, she’s located in Pattaya as the thread starter mentioned Bangkok Bank in Jomtien/Pattaya. But if you apply for a 90 days Non O visa at home before you leave, you’ll have good possibilities for to open a bank account yourself. They normally require a long stay visa, the problem is tourist visa or visa exemption. You’ll have to do this within the first month as the 800K have to be seasoned for two months before you apply for your first year extension of stay.
I can tell you that its not easier at Kasikorn, they want exact the same docs all together. if you only miss one of them no account. We had almost everything, a 1 year rental contract, CoR, DL we even had a Thai health insurance policy contract, only thing we didn‘t have was a longterm visa because we entered with the 30 day visa exemption, and they didn‘t accept it. So no account. We tried several branches
