TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirements for obtaining a retirement visa, specifically the bank balance requirement, can be confusing. Generally, for a Non-Immigrant O visa, applicants need to demonstrate a bank balance of at least 800,000 THB that has been maintained for at least 2 months from a foreign source. However, if applying for a one-year extension of stay based on being over 50 years of age, the funds do not necessarily have to come from abroad. Bangkok Bank, and other banks, can provide a standard letter confirming the balance, which must be supported by a 3-month passbook showing deposit history.

  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

And hopefully Nick has enough information to get the letter he needs for his extension.

The bank letter does not state you have had your money in the account for 2 months nor does it state that you brought it in from overseas. It's a bare bones fill in the blanks letter.

This is the poster on the wall of the bangkok bank out at Chaengwattana

Sorry the example is not really clear so deleted it.

Visit your bank and ask for an example, I'm sure they can give you one.

Bangkok bank do a standard letter confirming the balance in the book. Of course you need to present the actual book and copies of pages going back 3 months.

If it is for an 1 year Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age there is NO requirement that the money has to come from abroad

I'm getting confused to, What are applying for:

a Non Immigrant O visa, which is very unlikely as a valid stay on visa exempt or tourist visa is not possible.

Or an Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age.
