Sounds like parking 800k indefinitely is the easiest route. However realistically would cost approximately $100 usd in lost interest per month. Mark it up as a line item living expense??? 🤷‍♂️

@Jay **********
It would cost me AUD$350 per month in lost income to use the 800k method! Fortunately, unlike many, I'm not frightened of banks, so I stick with the 65k monthly transfers!! Simples

Im in the same situation

I want to change but might have to wait. It's hard to get a clear answer.

Answer is very clear. Hasn't changed in all the years I've been here. It's just Facebook doomsday trolls who are spreading the bs as usual

You need to get a confirmation of overseas transfers from Kasikorn. All Bangkok Bank can give you is what you have which doesn't help. Look at the Wise FAQ for THB transfers

I went to kasikorn yesterday, showed them the wise receipt, they were not helpful, directed me back to Bangkok bank. I realize wise thb transfer faq has a lot of info but the so called letter to confirm international transfer seems to be either made up or a fantasy. Does anyone have an actual example of such a letter?
John **********
@Jackie ***********
you can't just go to any Kasikorn branch. You have to go to an International Trade Centre branch

Yes i did that and im going to jomtien immigration tomorrow to show them that and inquire if this is going to be a problem. Im not due for renewal until may 2026 but i had an issue with bank coding 2 years ago and had to get a supervisor to intervene. Would prefer to avoid that scenario in the future
Lynnette *******
It says for tourist expenses not long term stay, and looks like kasikorn is where it was sent through .

Exactly. Its likely useless

@Jackie ***********
but what were you trying to achieve? It's come from source/wise, to kasikorn to Bangkok bank.

Look for the sending bank marked FTT*****

@Peter ******
I did the European bank transfer. But if I got it well as international transfer, I not have details of the exchange rate, nor the costs, how did you get this?
Peter *******
@Martin *********
with Bangkok Bank just ask for a Credit Advice. It is printed out as my example.
Martin **********
@Peter ******
But you cannot get this by the app, have to go to bank? Should put this straight away with booking
Peter *******
@Martin *********
you have to go to the bank and request it. You can get them automatically emailed to you but again have to go to bank to set this up.

That's because wise is sending your money to K Bank and then from K bank to your account. So as far as Bangkok bank is concerned, this is not a foreign transfer, but came from another Thailand bank. I already talked to wise and they basically said that's the way it is now. Someone on a post said that you can go to K bank and track that money and get a letter from K bank. In addition to this issue, my account got in that frozen account stuff so I have another account with SCB and I did a swift transfer which cost $55 more than a wise transfer. If you take an account the discounted conversion rate. I lost a full baht in the USD/baht conversion which is 3 to 4%, ouch! Another expert said that he gets his checks transferred through Bangkok bank branch in New York City, if you're an American. Lotta things are hitting all at the same time.

@Mark ********
So Bangkok Bank is no longer a correspondent bank of wise?
Mark *********
@Heinz **********
Wise had to change how they move money into Thailand. Even if you have an account at Kbank, they cannot put money directly into your account from overseas. Everything they bring in has got to go to their account at k bank before it is transferred to your account at any Bank in Thailand. So if you just need money for our normal purpose like buying a car or living expenses there is no problem they will still give you the best rate. What they cannot do is say that the money that they gave your account came directly from overseas. That means if you are looking to use this money to qualify for the long term Visa it is no longer going to pass the standards of Thailand immigration as of September 2025.

@Mark ********
Thanks. Though my question was if Bangkok Bank is not a correspondent bank from wise anymore (same procedure as with Kbank and a few others).

hey Marc, thanks for your reply and sorry for the newbie related question. I am moving to Thailand in a few months on an OA retirement visa and was planning to set up transfers from my local bank in the US via Wise to a local bank in Thailand, likely K Bank from what I’ve read, given the recent bank account freezes. If I set these transfers up as foreign transfers for long stay living through Wise, isn’t that sufficient for immigration annual renewals? Am I understanding this correctly? Is the person who posted here having trouble because they went through an intermediary bank in Thailand for some reason? Just trying to find my way. Thanks.

@Alex *********
not a problem as we were all newbies at one point here. Unfortunately there has been a shift in Wise transfers process. I experienced it for the first time this month when the normal notation of "transferred from overseas for a long term visa" was eliminated when the money instead of going directly into my Thai bank account accounts from overseas was instead being transferred from a Thailand bank. So the old routing was my US Bank to wise to to my Bangkok bank account with the notation intact that the money came from a foreign account. This would satisfy the requirements of immigration. This month the new routing was from my US account to wise to an account wise has in Thailand to my Thailand bank account. As the final leg of the transfer was from Thailand bank to Thailand bank, the notation of foreign transfer was eliminated.This means that this money does not meet the requirements of immigration. The only avenue I am aware of that allows for a direct transfer from a foreign account to a Bangkok bank account is Swift. The problem with the Swift transfer is that you go from a $16 fee plus a small hit on the US dollar to Thailand Baht conversion with Wise to a no fee transfer through swift. Sounds great doesn't it? Unfortunately, the fee for transfer is hidden in the hit you take on the conversion rate from a foreign currency to the Thai Baht. On the day of my Swift transfer, completed about 2 weeks ago, the official exchange rate of the Thai Baht was 31.74 and my actual experienced exchange rate through the Swift transfer was 30.78. that means that I lost $69 in money value with a swift transfer or about 3%. It is easier to not deal with this monthly transfer stuff by keeping 800,000 baht in a no interest checking account, but of course you lose the opportunity for appreciation in this scenario. By the regulation set forth by immigration, the money has to be free and available at any time so you can't put it in that term deposit. If you are married (to a Thai citizen?)it knocks down the deposit requirement to $400,000 baht. As my tax accountant told me never do something only to save money on taxes!

@Mark ********
Thanks for the clarity. I understood everything, and that’s what I was worried about. In the last few years, it seems many US banks use this “no fee” model, because they’re skimming money within the exchange. It ends up being more expensive than it was before. Frustrating.

Has there been any way to correct this Wise issue through their support reps or is this the way it now is for everyone who uses the app? Is there really no remedy other than transferring the full 800K in and leaving it there? With all of these bank freezes, I am not feeling comfortable with that unless I have no other choice. I was also wondering whether Thai Banks can receive and hold money in USD, or if it’s only acceptable for immigration purposes for the currency be in Thai baht for the whole year? Lastly, I thought you only had to have the full 800K for the few months before your renewal date and the rest of the year it could be no less than 400K. Is that not so?

i did swift transfer from Schwab investment account to Bangkok bank this week. $15 fee and sending in usd converted at ฿31.6. my credit union wants a $60 fee so that changes the equation. Same amount through wise ended up with $26 in fees and exchange rate about the same.
Peter *******
That is Credit Advice of money being transferred from Kasikorn Bank. You need a Credit Advice from Kasikorn Bank.

If your payment has gone through a third party bank in Bangkok on its way to you you need you need a Foreign Exchange Transaction form your bank fill in the details at thier end but send the form to the third party bank they add thier details like where it came from. It cost about 300thb and takes a few weeks.
