TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around recommendations for banks in Thailand for expats looking to open accounts. Notable banks mentioned are Kasikorn, Bangkok Bank, Krungsri, and UOB. Users emphasize that ATM fees are reasonable if using the same bank's ATM within the province. Users seeking to transfer significant sums need to consider banks that allow international transfers, particularly Bangkok Bank, SCB, and Kasikorn. Additionally, feedback indicates that cardless withdrawals may eliminate ATM fees altogether. Some users recount challenges in opening accounts with tourist visas, suggesting other documentation may be required.
Thanks for all the information i tryed today at 3 Banks in Em Quartier and all 3 wouldnt open a account for me ,, it seems i need to have something other than a Tourist visa !
The branch I have an account with is on Sukhumvit next to W District. I hear that the branch in EmQuartier, Phrom Phong, is easy for expats to work with.
If you're going to be transferring money in regularly, only 3 banks allow international transfers of 50,000 or more per time. Bangkok, SCB and Kasikorn.
I believe the 50,000 baht limit has something to do with Wise transfers. If you do a traditional wire transfer you can wire just about any amount. I wired transferred over a million baht to Kasikorn in order buy a car last year and similar amounts while building a house.
The best bank is whichever one you can get to open an account for you. Other than that they're all pretty similar. ATM fees are free if you use the same brand ATM in the same province your account is in, likely a certain number of free uses of other bank ATMs in the same province, and then a fee for any ATM out of province.
