Bringing people up to date. I did a Wise transfer today from my bank in Australia to Bangkok Bank in Thailand. I selected as always "Funds For Longstay In Thailand" used PayID as the transfer method. The transfer took around twelve hours and came through as an International Transfer. My account was opened some years back on a non-immigrant visa, and I am still on a non-immigrant extension. I use the minimum 65k per month transfer method. My account has never been frozen

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their recent experience transferring funds from Australia to Bangkok Bank in Thailand for long-term stay purposes. They noted the transfer was labeled as 'Funds For Longstay In Thailand' and was completed in about twelve hours. They confirmed that their account, opened with a non-immigrant visa, has consistently not faced issues like freezing, in contrast to concerns other users had about newer accounts facing scrutiny. The community discussed variations in transfer speeds, the potential scrutiny of account activity by Thai banks, and the implications of transferring legitimate funds for personal use.
Yes, but some people have better things to do with their money. I wouldn't put 800k in a Thai bank account earning 1% interest when I've got a pension which easily covers the 65k requirement. I have to transfer funds anyway, so it's much easier to kill the two birds with the one stone.

This is because of you transfer funds from overseas legitimate sources under your own name and you spend the money for own use such as hotel booking, fine dining and so on in Thailand.
Thai government wants foreign exchange/ earning in Thailand and spend the money in Thai businesses.
If Thai banks close your account, it is like they skilling by themselves.
No checks are made on where the money is actually spent. It's irrelevant to the actual bank transfer

And you are still a douche bag. Learn how to engage rather than be a didactic prick.

Today mine came through as international transfer, just 15k but it took 3 days. I was hoping it was to be instant as I was doing a trip to Hua hin. Ended up uploading more money to wise and sending to my gf at another bank instantly. I also assume international transfers are back on the table and will need to label it in such a way for either fast receiving or those that need for immigration as long stay. Good luck to all those needing it labelled correctly.
Hi mark, quick question on the 65,000 monthly income when can this method take place and after the initial year do you still need to have 400,000 or can this be taken out when your on this method of income
I switched from OA to O, so I never had the 800k lump sum, but I believe you have to meet the requirements of each separate year to ensure continuity, so you wouldn't be able to withdraw the lump sum until three months after you've obtained the extension based on 65k per month
if you are changing from banked money to monthly payments then you need to do both for the first year. In other words you have to honour the requirements of banked money AND make 12 monthly payments of not less than
*****
baht. You can remove
*****
0 of the banked money after 3 months but the rest must stay there until you have received your extension based on monthly payments. At that time the other
*****
0 baht can be removed and you continue making monthly payments. In my experience, having used both methods, I can honestly say that banked money makes for an easier and more stress free life which might or might not be worth missing out on a bit of interest for.
Depends on how much interest you miss out on. As an Aussie with a Super Fund paying in excess of 11% per annum tax free (so 88,000 baht per year) that's way too much to miss out on, and tying up 800,000 baht for the rest of my life, and still have to bring in money to live on anyway. For me (and for many other shrewd investors) it's a no-brainer. The 65k wins every time!
For those with a monthly income stream the 65k transfers makes far more sense. Best interest you get in a Thai savings account is 1%. That's insulting. But many don't have the necessary monthly income. I use the 65k monthly transfer method. Never missed a beat. You just have to remember at the beginning of the month to make the transfer. I never forget because I'm just about out of money by then!
first year I tried swift transfers. My uk bank messed up the 5th transfer and failed to tell me. By the time I found out it was too late I made a complaint during which it became apparent to them that I was living in Thailand so they closed my account. I had to return to UK to sort that out. In addition, it took at keast 30 minutes on the phone e each month setting up the transfer as they could not set up a direct debit and I had to go through all the details time after time. Year two went OK using Wise to Bangkok Bank. This year with all the banking issues with BB I am unable to find out if transfers have been coded correctly. It us just not worth the hassle. Some people use agents to get extensions. I can't understand that waste of money but many claim it saves them time and hassle. Banked money us a no brained now for me.
Not sure what you mean by "tits up". Never had a problem in the last five years. I transfer 65-70k each month from overseas. The transfers are tracked. That's what immigration needs to see. I'm happy getting the extra AUD$4000 each year. Pays for a couple of overseas air fares! Plus I don't tie up 800k for the rest of my life. If it works for you, that's good, I've just got better things to do with my money ๐๐๐๐

It sounds like you're doing things the hard way. I do the transfer manually at the beginning of every month, always used Wise/Bangkok Bank and never had a problem. People talk about the "issues" with Bangkok Bank but I've yet to experience that. I wonder what a lot of these people have been up to, probably using agents to falsify the 800k in their accounts. As far as I'm concerned those that have used agents in the past to make dodgy transactions can go suck eggs.
Yep. I noticed it too today but also my transfer on 29th of september. August, same method with reason 'funds for long stay........' had DEP TRF FR E-CH in my app. I THINK there was some issue, but they did not tell ๐คทโโ๏ธ
