TLDR : Answer Summary
Many expats are curious about which banks in Thailand allow them to open accounts without a work permit or visa. Bangkok Bank appears to be the most frequently mentioned option, with some users successfully opening accounts on tourist visas. Other banks like SCB and Kasikornbank have also been noted for their accessibility. However, experiences vary significantly, with some people suggesting that having a Thai person present can facilitate the process. Others recommend using an agent to navigate the challenges of account opening, especially for non-Thai residents. Overall, it's a common issue, and potential account holders are encouraged to explore different banks and be prepared for varying requirements.
Take your Thai gf/wife/partner with you, and let her do the talking. That greatly enhances your chances. You will need to show your passport/visa, and I was also asked for the foreign bank account most of my funds would be coming from.
nope. You can open an account here on a simple tourist and certainly on a Non O (any kind). Yes shopping around might be the order on the day... but K and BKK banks will do it with very little money as deposit (around 1000 bht).
That did not work for me at Kasicorn inside Lotus Khon Kaen. Some BS about 2 weeks in que, IDK WTF he wanted….but it did not help having Thai GF with me at her bank.
No problem vouching for me. But sometimes she tells more information than is needed and I think that what she said to bank manager was enough for him not to help me open account or something he didn’t need to know.
Going to see a broker and maybe this is the easiest way.
Bangkok Bank with residence certificate and accident insurance purchase, no thank you/not needed did not change this. Of course this will vary by region and branch.
that didn't work for me. It was 5,900baht for an additional insurance or no bank account. I gave her the 3rd degree and walked out and got it at Kasikorn.
