TLDR : Answer Summary
Many expats are curious about which banks in Thailand allow them to open accounts without a work permit or visa. Bangkok Bank appears to be the most frequently mentioned option, with some users successfully opening accounts on tourist visas. Other banks like SCB and Kasikornbank have also been noted for their accessibility. However, experiences vary significantly, with some people suggesting that having a Thai person present can facilitate the process. Others recommend using an agent to navigate the challenges of account opening, especially for non-Thai residents. Overall, it's a common issue, and potential account holders are encouraged to explore different banks and be prepared for varying requirements.

Took my Thai lady, made no difference!

Yes, this question is asked quite a lot.

Take your Thai gf/wife/partner with you, and let her do the talking. That greatly enhances your chances. You will need to show your passport/visa, and I was also asked for the foreign bank account most of my funds would be coming from.

Ok….for those who used an agent this year, 2022 in BKK and no problem on tourist visa - agent name and location??? Telephone/mobile number??

TIA

@Kyrian ****
Open a Bangkok Bank account free. 200bt for a debit card.
Gordon *******
It's the simplest way, use an agent. Very difficult otherwise
GY ****
Bkk radchada my bf has covid extension but still can open
Gordon *******
Very difficult to open account. Easiest option. is to reluctantly use an agent, about 4500-5000b

If on retirement Visa, have proof of marriage or residency easier otherwise not easy at all
John-Paul ******
Using a agent.... now that was a good idea. Seriously.... I am all for it. That us something I will pass on.
John-Paul ******
Then it just me and about 50 others I I know who have had no problems at all I guess.

Just shop around.... smile... wai.... dress like you are going to the office... is generally the rule of thumb.

@John-Paul *****
of course you can 🙄
Gordon *******
If it was that easy to do they wouldn't be so many posts on this subject daily!
John-Paul ******
@Gordon ******
nope. You can open an account here on a simple tourist and certainly on a Non O (any kind). Yes shopping around might be the order on the day... but K and BKK banks will do it with very little money as deposit (around 1000 bht).
Gordon *******
Same with most people, walk to different banks, getting refused. Use Agent, account opened straight away.

All bank allow you to open bank account without the work permit

You can ask them for bank account type "Non residentail Bank Account"

Only con is you need to go to bank everytime when you need to withdrawn the money.

None of them.

@Robert *********
rubbish! Yes one has to shop around but you will find one. Try BKK Bank as they have representation in US.

I did years ago and u know many that have opened and account (usually ONLY savings) over the past 2 years.

@John-Paul *****
I know. I’ve lived here for a few years, I have an account with Krungsri. It’s just all the banks are so darn hostile to foreigners.
John **********
If you can take a Thai along to vouch for you it simplifies the process
Jeffrey *******
@John *********
That did not work for me at Kasicorn inside Lotus Khon Kaen. Some BS about 2 weeks in que, IDK WTF he wanted….but it did not help having Thai GF with me at her bank.
John **********
@Jeffrey ******
just their presence isn't enough in my experience, they need to be able to vouch for you
Jeffrey *******
@John *********
No problem vouching for me. But sometimes she tells more information than is needed and I think that what she said to bank manager was enough for him not to help me open account or something he didn’t need to know.

Going to see a broker and maybe this is the easiest way.

Pay to play.

At the moment, Bangkok Bank is the easiest to open while on a tourist visa/visa exemption. The requirements vary by branch,
Zap **********
Bangkok Bank with residence certificate and accident insurance purchase, no thank you/not needed did not change this. Of course this will vary by region and branch.

@Mich****

that didn't work for me. It was 5,900baht for an additional insurance or no bank account. I gave her the 3rd degree and walked out and got it at Kasikorn.
