Has anyone created a USD account (with Bangkok bank or any Thai bank) in addition to your main baht account so that you can receive and withdeaw USD without having to exchange to baht? Would you recommend doing that and any caveat?

I will be retiring to Thailand next month. How is it best to transfer funds from a UK bank...Barclay..to a Thai bank account whilst in Thailand. My phone app doesn't offer the Thai baht as a currency to transfer..and I am not sure if I would be able to access my bank account online by computer. Is it best to go through an agency to transfer money ? What to do for the best. Any advice appreciated.

IV come in on 30 days entry, now moving to a 90 day non o based on being married to a Thai. All the paperwork has gone in , on putting in into jomtien immigration. I pointed out that my thai account is in sterling and that the account has never been below 2 million. The bank letter confirmed the account transfering the amount to bahts. The money in the account was transferred from my UK account 4 years ago and not used that much for withdrawal but as it say never went under 2 million. This is the same account I used for a non o visa based on being over 50 for years. As I was stuck in the UK my retirement visa past renewal date, so as I was starting from scratch I went for the visa based on marriage. Today for some unknown reason after a week they asked me for a bank book update but did not want the bank letter to show it in bahts. Doesn't seem to make much sense , has any one have any idea what might be going on.

Looking for advice. We have just come back from our bank after refusal of a letter and statement for Immigration to renew our OA Visa due to the fact our money is in our separate $US accounts and not our Thai baht accounts. What to do now and help greatly appreciated.

I use Krungsri bank and use Udon Thani immigration office. I have a FCD USD savings account and a THB savings account. I intend to use my FCD account to apply for my extension. Krungsri will issue the guarantee letter but there is no bank book to update. Will this be a problem?

Anyone here run a UK bank account linked to an Expat account. Sadly I'm with HSBC and their advice (such that it has been) was shocking. Called in at HSBC Bangkok as advised only to be told they don't do private/expat banking anymore šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I notice some Thai banks allow you to hold savings in a foreign currency. Any thoughts on this? And are funds in a Thai bank protected by any national entity (like the FDIC in the US)?
