ORIGINAL POSTER
I live in Thailand.

I have a Uk passport that is going to expire in November 2024. My retirement visa renewal is in October each year. My question is how do I keep my visa in my passport and receive a new passport? As I have to submit my old passport when renewing it?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When renewing your UK passport while living in Thailand and holding a retirement visa, you typically do not need to submit your old passport. Instead, you'll send copies when applying for the new passport. Once you receive the new passport, go to Thai immigration with both your old and new passports to transfer your immigration stamps, including your extension of stay and any re-entry permits, at no extra charge.

I just did this and I didn't have to go back to BKK to collect my new one - they sent it to me here in Phuket via DHL. So I now have 2 and the old one still has it's corners!

Ok I have just done this about 7 weeks ago

Take the form and your money into the passport office with your passport if you are in Bangkok you will need to make a appointment to go they will look over your form and take your money and give you a receipt for your money and form

You have to wait and once your passport has arrived they will inform you

You take your old passport with you and they will cut a corner of your old passport and then return it to you with your new passport and they will give you an form for the immigration office to fill in and you will need one more for the thai immigration to fill so you will have two forms for the thai immigration

You need two copies of your passport one for the old and the new passport

Now if you are on a retirement visa they will ask you for your bank book and a full years statement from your bank, this is what happened to me even though its not on the website for the passport renewal, I have to go to Bangkok immigration

You dont send your British passport anywhere from Thailand for renewal, you retain it and send copies in order to apply for a new one. Even easier!

@Steve ******
ok; for US we send it to Bangkok and they send both back to us

As a UK citizen you can apply for a second UK passport. This is a very little known fact.

i have two but only because i have a valid reason and i need supporting documents everytime i apply

@Thomas ********
This is discretionary and will require a valid reason, like you travel alot on business and will be held up when obtaining visa, or you travel to two countries where they would not let you in with the other countries stamp in your passport.

Same as US then.

well I think that visa reason is good enough. Everyone I know has applied. All have been approved.

Thomas Barnard No need for a 2nd passport and definitely not a reason for a 2nd passport as you retain your old passport through the application process.

British passports are kept during the renewal and submitted when the new one arrives
Steve *******
No submitting your passport. You keep your old British passport. You send copies for the renewal, then take old and new passports to Immigration and they'll transfer extention of stay stamp and any re-entry permit.
