Hi,

I have an education visa which expires Jan 2023. Unfortunately I had to leave Thailand in August in order to get a new passport from my home country.

Finally I have this new passport and I will be returning to Thailand in a few days, I have a re entry permit as well. I know that when I return to Thailand I have to show immigration both new passport and old but my question is where should I let them stamp the entry stamp? I'm Assuming the new passport but I'd like just confirmation from members here. Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
When returning to Thailand with a new passport and an education visa, it's important to show both your new and old passports to immigration. The entry stamp will be placed in your new passport automatically; you do not have a choice in that matter. After arrival, you should visit the immigration office that issued your education visa extension to have your visa details transferred to your new passport.

and we're done. I'm sure the O/P can figure it out now

Good luck to them

Once you get a new passport, your old passport is invalid. Although you can transfer things to your new passport.

OP asked "I know that when I return to Thailand I have to show immigration both new passport and old but my question is where should I let them stamp the entry stamp?"

Like the staff at my consulate told me, you can't get a new passport without cancelling the old one. Once your new passport is cancelled, they give you your new passport. The transfer and the validity of the stamps is separate from the validity of passport, though.

which is why I said he can't 'choose' where they stamp him in, you're right he can't stamp in on the old passport, just show it so they see that he holds and extension and a valid re-entry permit in it and stamp him in on the new one correctly

which is neither here nor there in the plan of what they are doing. The VISAS / EXTENSIONS and RE-ENTRY PERMITS in the old passport are all still valid ๐Ÿ˜‰

you show both passports when you stamp in. They will stamp you in on the new passport (you get no choice on that) and then you take the old passport, the new passport to the immigration office where you got the ED visa extension and get the stamps transferred into the new passport
