I have my Non-B and a work visa and have to go in July for my extension. I have one page left in my passport and I'm planning to get a new one. Is it best to do that before the extension or after?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a Non-B and a work visa and is considering whether to get a new passport before or after their visa extension in July. Comments advise that it is best to get a new passport beforehand due to insufficient pages for a work permit and that immigration will transfer the visa from the old passport to the new one free of charge.

Yeah I’m just pissed I have to go though the whole process again because I wasn't prepared to lose 10 -12 months on my passport validity. Sigh.
. Same worldwide mate. People enter countries and "lose" or "forget" to renew passports. Renewing or reolacing a passport triggers a flag on overstayers. They end up being found and kicked out years later. Happens daily here. People overstaying a lot longer than the length of a valid passport.

Really stupid system. You should get a full 1-year Extension of Stay date contingent on you providing a new passport. It’s pretty obvious 99.9% of expats have to get a new passport anyway when the old one expires. Kerchink, kerchink.
Ok many thanks. Bad news then. I’ll have to cancel the visa and start a new process for a Non Imm O. as I’ll be working in the UK on August 27th, even 45 days before that, too. Cheers anyway.
. 27th August. Thats why they crossed out october. Because of your passport expiry.
In my case ,i still only got 10 months because of my passport. So id say the same for you.

Ok, that‘s interesting. Thanks. So which date do you think they will put in my new passport seen in the scan? October 3rd or August 27th?

Yes . The original expiry date of your extension still stands regardless of new passport.
When you collect the new passport they will give you a letter or stamp in passport asking immigration to transfer it for you. They will also cancel your old passport and also give that back to you.Take old and new passport to immigration. All visas and extensions remain valid regardless of which passport has them.
If I’m understanding you correctly, this might be good news for me. I sent off my passport yesterday. (Well actually I made an online application for a new one which takes 10-14 days to arrive as it‘s biometric and I've already had one so am in their system.) That is just over two months before the passport expires so if I take the new passport down to CW, can I also transfer the remaining period left on my Extension of Stay plus the lost 6 weeks taken away because of the earlier expiry date of the passport? Any idea?

Extension of stay they will definately transfer for free. I have had it done myself. Visa and extension expiry dates never exceed the expiry date of your passport when approved anyway.
I applied for a yearly extension and was approved for only 10 months because thats when my passport was expiring. I renewed my passport 3 months before expiry of extension and passport and they transferred the remaining 3 months of my extension to my new passport free of charge.
Hope that makes sense..

Immigration will transfer your visa from old to new passport free of charge or your Extension of Stay stamp? I ask because I have to do the latter soon.

You don’t have enough pages for a work permit.
Get new passport and be sure it can be transferred over.
